SEAMEN'S WAGES.
CONCILIATION PROPOSAL. MEN TAKE FIRST STEP. (Received 8.30 a.m.) LONDON, July 8. A committee of the National Sailors and Firemen's Union has asked the shipowners to co-operate in the formation of a Conciliation Board to deal with their various demands, including a sliding scale, at a uniform rate of wages for all ports and a minimum living wage. A. seamen's representative to witness the signing of articles of agreement in order to prevent disputes on the voyage is also suggested.
