QUAKES UNDER THE TASMAN
SHOCKS LAST FOUR EOTIBS. ' THE WKINHIiENG EARTH. '- (Received 9.35 a.m.) SYDNEY; this day. The Riverview seismograph, shortly after 4.30 p.m. yesteiday, commenced a record which lasted /J £everal hours, and was the most pronounced yet recorded by the instrument, the double amplitude of the waves of maximum phase being 150 millimetres. The origin of the disturbance is probably about 600 miles westward of Wel- | lington, New Zealand, where faulting i seems to be going on, as the disturbance is identical with those recorded on 2nd May, and Ist inst., as well as those in June and December of last year. BIG 'QUAKES IN ATLANTIC. RECORDED ON BOTH SIDES. (Received 8.55 a.m.) LONDON, June 16. Shocks of earthquake 4000 miles distant were recorded at Washington yesterday. The shocks were also recorded in England, Spain, and Italy.
