EUCHRE? The first of a series of tournaments to be hrtd by the Epsom Bowling and Croquet Club took place .it the Tiffin tea rooms on Wednesday evening, where 24 tables wore occupied. After a pleasant eveninjr, the following were the prize-winners:—Ladies' first, Miss Niecol; ladles' second. Mw» Coleman; gent-'e first. Mr Loo Mahon; gent.'s second, Mx La Rocne, after a play-off between Mr W. Davies, Mr S. Lee and Mr S. Harrison. On Monday evening a meeting of the Point Chevalier Road Board was held. Prosent: Messrs Tijos. Dign.-iu (chairman), T. .T. McXvor, W. J. Brooks, F. F"nlr-weaiher and J. Iloskens , . Finance and Works Committees were formed, and the whole Board are to visit the roads in the district, to ascertain what work is necessary to be carried out during the year. Mr John Boylan, C.8., was appointed engineer for the water supply scheme and consulting engineer to the Board. Notice was given that the usual rate of Jd in the £ -would be struck at next meeting, which is the same as last year. The plans and speciGcatkms of Fourth-avenue, Gladstone Estate, were approved of. A statement from the telegraph office showed a surplus for the year ending Slst March, 1910, on the working expenses of the local telephone office, and that the guarantors would receive the amount in due course. CHURCH SOCIAL. The annual soiree ana recognition or Pastor .Tethro Lock took place at the Newton Congregational Church last evening. Mr. John .Ellvett presided, and the pastor was welcomed by the ■chiilrma.n on behalf of the Chnrch. and Messrs. F. Rowc, Sunday School; C. Spragg, Band of Hope; and H. Potter, Endeavour. Addresses were also given by the Rev. S. Griffiths, Devonport the Rev. J. Wilson, and the .Rev. H. Steele Craik, while Pastor 'Lock responded.
