SUPERINTENDENT OF HARBOURS.

The Hon. J. A. Millar, Minister for Marine, was asked by a "'Star" representative what he thought of the proposal brought before the Harbour Board by Mr. J. K. Kneen for the establishment of a Superintendent of Harbours. The Minister replied that he thought the suggestion rather a good one. The officer in question might be appointed by th 2 .Marine Department in conjunction with the Public Works Department, and so have a supervising power in regard to works as well as navigation. It would be too expensive an undertaking to appoint such an officer for each port, but an officer of the kind for the whole Dominion might be a wise innovation.
