SCHOLARSHIP AND SPORT.
WHERE SOUTH AFRICANS FAIL. (Received 9.45 a.m.) LONDON, June 7. Dr. Parkin, secretary of the Rhodes Scholarship Trust, has toured South Africa to inquire why South African Rhodes scholars excelled in sports and failed in work, whereas 'Australian, New Zealand, and Canadian scholars secured scholarships and prizes. •He reports that it is desirable that South Africans should spend a year or two in their own universities before going to Oxford.
