AUCKLAND WINTER EXHIBITION.

-_trUK_E3-_yTS WELL IN EAND.

It was feared, early in the year that the Auckland Agricultural and Pastoral Association's Wiater &ahj—ition would have, to 'be. ab_nd«6ed for 1910, as, the Harbour Board intijggu—,ed that the great iron sheds on the Railway wharf would not be available for further use hy the Aesoeia—ion. The Management Ccnhmittee cast about in every direction for a suitable site for the purpose, but no building of sufficient aceoß-modation. could be found. Finally, the Harbour 'Board came tQ. thi rescue with an offer of a site even more —_tral than last year's, and the Whiter F_hihitioh of 1910 will be held in the great new buildings on the Queen-street wharf, which will be ready for occupation by the date of the show—July 18th next. The exhibition will open on the Monday, and be ——tintued until the following Saturday.

The greatest feature of the show. is, of course, the buttcrrgrading points competition, in which practically every butter factory in the province competes, and for which handsome prizes are offered. Entries have closed in this class, and the number of factories competing is greater than at any previous exhibition. The prizes include the 'famous Weddel Cup and gold medal, in addition to £30 in ' cash. These are awarded to the butter-m-_kers whoso factory output. for the season gains the highest average number of points, according to the certificate issued by the Government grader between October Ist, 1909, and March 31st, 1910. The cup has to be won two years in succession, or three times at hiterval_ Two years ago it was won by the Thames Valley Factory, and last year by the Manawaru Factory. These two factorie? ! have since amalgamated, so that the contest for ultimate ownership of tbe coveted trophy is still very open. j There is an increase in the total prize money offered, while the association offers a champion shield, value 20 guineas, and a gold medal to the cheese-maker whose factory output for the season, November 1, 1900, to April 30, 1910, gains the highest number of points in the grading points competition and in classes 13 and 13. The shield is to be won two years in succession, or three years at intervals, before becoming the property of any one exhibitor. The Agricult—-al Department is going to make a large display, and there will be other attractive exhibitions.

Good entries are anticipated in, tht> District Courts 1 Competition, which ia always one of the features of the exhibition. This class is open to the best and most comprehensive collection ol agricultural, dairy and pastoral exhibits, drawn from respective counties. The Auckland Farmers' Freezing Company offer a trophy, valued at 30 guineas, to be competed for annually, and to hecome the property of the exhibitor gaining the largest numiber of awards in nine yeans. The association adds £35 in cash prizes. A first prize of £5 and a gold medal is offered for the settler's table containing the best display of cereals, roots, fruits, vegetables, etc. The table decoration class has been divided. For the first three days the competition will be in the open crass, and on--the Thursday will give place to the classes for senior girls attending any school or college in the province.

The photographic competitions are also attracting lartje entries, both in the open classes and the amateur classes. Another novel feature will he the Maori and South Sea Courts, prizes of up to £5 being offered. |
