BIG BOXING CONTEST.
TOMMY BURNS "VERSUS LANGFORD. All arrangements in connection with the boxing match between Tommy Burns and Sam Langford were clinched last week, when Tommy Burns received the following cablegram from Mr. W. W. Naughton, American corr-espo—dent at San Francisco of the Sydney "Referee":—
"Match arranged. Five thousand dollars bonus for you will be put up immediately, and the whole of the purse, 30,000 dollars, and guarantees are to be lodged with the First National Bank, Oakland, a month before the date of contest, September 5."

Burns will leave for America on May 9 or June 6; he has not yet made up his mind regarding the date, but it is his intention to, in the meantime, undergo a light preparation, and to that end may spend _ week or two on the Blue Mountains with his bro-her.
Bums recognises that a meeting with Langford is pregnant with big possibilities for -im. If he wins, he can insist upon Jack Johnson facing him again, and there will be much money to be. made showing in the States and England, where Langford has been declared champion of the world, because Johnson signed articles to meet Langford at the National Sporting Club, London, and afterwards refused to act np to his contract.
Little more than a week ago, at San Francisco, Langford beat the American heavyweight, Jimmy Barry, in 16 rounds, and that was the ninth match between the pair, _lost of th—m being "no decision" contests.
While the negotiations were pending, and when it appeared likely that Burns and Langford might not meet in America, Mr. H. D. Mcintosh offered Langford £2,000, win, lose, or draw, and expenses, to come to Australia, and face Burns; but Langford refused unless a •parti—daily large purse were offered
