SETTLING THE LAND.
Sections of Crown land in v_rio_s parts of the - province were balloted for at the. Lands Office this morning, Mr. G. _E__e--1 ton acting as scrutineer. The following were the results: —A section of 860 acres, —angiri, "William, dose; 208 acres, Ta-ranga, J. Thompson; 720 acres, ____- pui, A. G. Curtis; section, Opuaw-anga, W. C. Candy; 59 teres, Hukerenui, U. —ussell; 30 acres, o—ihiri, Kin- Country, Robert Fraser. There were thirty applicants for the last-mentioned section. The Land Board yesterday rejected several of the applications on the ground that the applicants were not landless, and these were excluded from the ballot. Plans have jusit been received at tire Lands Office of a number of sections which will be sold by public auction on May 27th. At the town of Wolseley situated about a mile from Avondalej there are thirty-five sections, all about \ two roods in area, and the upset price varies from £12 to £ IS, the majority being offered at £15. Particulars are also given of sections at Waiomio, near J—a.wakawa, at Mamari near Broadwood, and at Tua.kau. On the twenty-third of May, 771 acres of rural lands will be offered under the optional system. The lands are in tie HoKianga, Hobson, Ota matea, and Whangarei Counties. The laage-t section is in the Opua-w—wga S—). —190 acres. Preference is to be given to landless applicants.
