" A disastrous fire broke out in " San Francisco, on Friday last, in which several women were injured.' The flames -spread rapidly, and by the time the fire--men had subdued the conflagration, 10 'business establishments were destroyed.
. There were several thrilling rescues made by the firemen, and they, saved j many women, who, having been roused from sleep by the smoke, were clad only in their night attire. The damage is estimated at £50,000. — hb-iril— of San Francisco and California generally were much alarmed last night when. a sharp earthquake shock ___i felt. The vibrations, which were chiefly confined to the central .portion of the State, were long and unduratory, but slow. They numbered about 1054. The duration Of the shock is given at from one-half second to four seconds. This is the severest earth disturbance felt since the big earthquake which laid i—n- Francisco in ruins.
