One of Messrs. Buchanan's baker carts came to grief at Maunsell-road, Parnell, this morning. In some way not quite clear, the cart was capsized, and the driver, a young man named Frank Perkins, was pinned underneath, and when after some difficulty he was extricated, he was in an unconscious condition. He was conveyed without loss of time to the Auckland Hospital, where an examination disclosed that no bones were broken, and, as far as could be ascertained, nothing very serious in the way of internal injury had taken place. The cart escaped without any material damage. The Rev. H. -S. Woollcombe delivered a brief, bright address to men at the Chamber of Commerce this afternoon, when there was a large attendance, including clergymen of various denominations. Bishop Neligan opened the proceedings by introducing tiie speaker. The rev gentleman only spoke about a quarter of an hour, but managed to compress a lot of sound common sense into that period, his remarks being to the point and delivered in a manner that was very effective. Mr.- Woolcombe notified that he intended to speak on religion at the evening meetings in St. Matthew's Church. Afternoon addresses will be delivered each day this week at the Chamber of Commerce with the exception of Good Friday. When Mr Edwin Harding proposed in the Hobson County Council 'meeting that a deputation wait upon the Commissioner of Crown Lands regarding certain county affairs, he had no idea (writes our Dargaville correspondent) that such prompt attention would 'be given to the wants of the deputation. Nevertheless, the arguments used must have 'been very forceful, for Mr Skerrett (surveyor) and staff of men 'have arrived, and on Saturday they proceeded out to the camp at Awa•kino. It is intended to have cut up a ■block of 5500 acres for settlement, and as soon as the roads are laid out and the •block is subdivided for settlement, the land will ibe thrown open. The delegates —Messrs E. Harding, Dargaville, and H. Hammon—have undoubtedly done a big thing for this district in that one item alone. •,.!.» - .;„. '.- .. i
