STEAMER UNDER SAIL.

SIGHTED BY A WHALER. NOT TBCE DURBAN, February 12. The whaling schooner Ulva has reported at Durban that on November 23 she sighted, during a snowstorm, a large two-funnelled steamer under sail south of Marion Island, in the Southern Ocean. The Waratah had only one funnel, and no two-funnel steamer is missing. SEEN BETWEEN SQUALLS. FRESH HOPE FOR THE WARATAH. (Received 9.40 a.m) MELBOURNE, this day. The State Premier, Mr. Murray, haa received a cable from Capetown stating that the disabled steamer was not sighted by the Ulva, but was seen from Marion Island going to the south-east, under sail. She appeared to be travelling at three knots an hour. A sealing party reported the matter to the captain of the Ulva. The vessel carried all possible canvas, and was only seen once between snow squalls. She disappeared from view in the following squall. The weather was very cloudy at the time. The news has awakened fresh hope in those interested in the Waratah. Captain Mitchell thinks the vessel, if it is the Waratah, will now be in the vicinity of Kerguelen Island, and the ship's company may be quite safe there.
