Heffer, who has beett running only a few weeks, having been rowing all the season, ran away with th* mile in 4.20 4-5. The three miles event went to H. T. Thompson, holder of the Australasian record over the Marathon distance, -in 15.53}. A Evensen wou both bnrdle events, beating G. St. V. Keddell. Evensea covered the 120 yds in 16 2-ss. and the 440yde in 63 3-ss. The mile walk resulted in a frreat surprise, the New Zealand champion P. J. Fitzgerald, being badly defeated by a h'ttierto almost unknown man, D. Cashman, in the remarkable time of 6.3S 4-5. The veteran Leslie turned out and walked beautifully, but the going was too solid for him. In a three miles handicap Fitzgerald was hopelessly out of it, and retired, Cashman- winning easily. Evensen won the high jump at sft sJin, and F. C. Hubbard the long" jump at 20ft 2in. G. P. Anderson's winning throw in the hammer event was 100 ft, There were over 3000 spectators, including His Excellency the Governor and Lady Pluniet. The sum of £14Q was taken at the gates. This will enable the Wellington centre to be strongly represented «t Auckland on the 2Gth inst. at the New Zealand championships.
