TATTMARXrian. Tlie Taumarunul Native Township Council mrt on Wednesday evening, Councillor '■ Ward in the chair. The Under-Secretary of Lands wrote informing the Council thusc 1 they were to be given, control cf the recrea- . tlon ground (26 acres). Dr. Purdy, D.H.0., wrote re water drainage, and suggested Mr. Metcalfe as consulting engineer. A rote of thanks was passed to Dr. Purdy for his interest in the matter. ■Mr. A. G. Richles has received word that tlie Taumarunul school Is to be enlarged, at a cost of about £600. This should be very : beneficial, as at present the school is very much overcrowded. WHANGAREI. WHANGABDI, Thnreday. Students' Recital.—The Whangarei School ' of Music gave a very successful concert In ■ the Presbyterian Church Hall to a crowded audience. The Rev. Patullo occupied the chair, In the nbsence of the Mayor. The i pupils, as students, acquitted themselves very creditably, and praise is due to Profussor Hutton for encouraging the study of classical music. The following programme was rendered:—Pianoforte duets: , 'Les Chasseurs v Cheval" (Adrlen Op. 33), "Retour de la Chasse" (Eugene Jambot), Miss Drake and Prof. Hutton. Pianoforte solos: "Invitation pour la Valse," Op. 18 (Chopin), Miss Hogwood; "Rondo Alia Turca" (Duseek), Miss Nellie Dalston (who received an enthusiastic encore). Songs: "Sunshine and Ham" (Blumenthal), Miss Nellie Stewart; ""Serenade" (Gounod), JXlss Hazel Baylls; "Three Green Bonnets (D'Hardelot), Miss Alleen Beresford; "Evening Pastoral Song" (Teschemasher), Miss May Henderson; "ShoUld He Upbraid" (Bishop), Mlse Clo- , thUdc Carrington; "Wilsper and I Shall Hear" (Piccollomlui), Miss James (encored), with violin obligate by Mr Forbes. Piano ; trio: "Le Depart" (Streabbog), Or>. 100, Misses 3. Ball, A. Dinnlss, ana M. James. Vocal duet: "Tie Moon Has Raised Her Lamp" (Benedict), Messrs F. Stragnell and X- Roberts. Recitation: "The Pride of Battery B," Mr F. Briggs. The recital concluded with two part songs by the male choir. The s.s. Kanierl, which, missed the -tide this morning, owlng-to an exceptionally big Incoming and outgoing cargo, to-da, took on board ten tons of bunker ooal front tae new Whangarei coal mine.
