TRAINS FOR THE SUMMER SEASON.

A SECOJvD THROUGH EXPRESS. i IMPROVED SUBURBAN SERVICE. ; As a Tesult of careful consideration of tlie demands of the Auckland railway traffic during the summer season, a new timetable comes into force on 'the Ist of next month. It will be seen that efforts have been made by the Railway Department to remove several grounds for complaint about which strong representations have been made recently. One important feature of tine new arrangement of the service is that in several instances, besides providing additional facilities, the speed' of the trains will , be accelerated. The running of the suburban trains between Auckland and Onehunga ■will be accelerated, the average time of trains from Onehunga to Auckland to be 30 minutes and from Auckland to Onehunga 32 minutes. In order to facilitate "traffic as much as possible, a number of alterations are also .made in the goods trains service. Apparently the frequent demands that have been made for earlier morning trains to enable -workers: to reside outside of the city and yet get to woTk before 8 a.m. iia-ve not found favour with the Department. SUNDAY TRAINS. A new feature of the timetable is that on Sundays the 9 a.m. train from Auckland will run to Papatoetoe, returning at 9.50 p.m. This train will not, towever, run between Penrose and Onehunga. The 4.45 p.m. train from Auckland will also run to Papatoetoe instead of to Onehunga, and will return at 5.30 p.m.< There will not be any 10 a.m. train from Onehunga to Penrose, nor will the 4.5 p.m. train from Onehunga to Auckland, run. Apparently the Department recognise that the wants of Onehunga are now to a great extent catered for by the electric tramcar service, and is therefore attending to districts that have no such advantage. WEEK DAT TRAINS.* During December and January a second express will leave Auckland for Wellington daily (Sundays excepted) at 10.35 a.m., making the same stops between Auckland and Frankton as the Rotorua express, but taking passengers for the Main Trunk line and Wellington, reaching Wellngton about 7 a.m. next day.
