NOT A PARTY PLANK.
CREWE ON THE SUFFRAGE. LONDON, November 12. 1 The Earl of Crewe (Leader of the Lib-' eral party in the House of Lords), in reply to a deputation of 14 members of the Suffrage Union within the Women's Liberal Federation, said it was impossible to make the women's vote a plank at the elections.
Dwelling with the sharp differences of opinion on the subject in the Government and in Parliament, he remarked that if the question were put in the House of Commons as it stood woman suffrage would be largely beaten. Changes in those now holding office in the party were certainly involved in making the question a definite issue at the election, and the party would suffer a distinct loss of strength.
