AUCKLAND SUNDAY SCHOOL UNION.
PRESENTATION NIGHT. The Baptist Tabernacle was crowded last evening at the final meeting in connection with the Auckland Sunday School Union annual gathering. Special interest centred in this meeting, owing to the presentation of certificates of honour to schools, the certificates to representatives of schools and the prizes to the scholars. Mr L. Falkner (president of the Union) occupied the chair, and on the platform were Mr C. J. Parr (chairman* of the Board of Education), Mrs Parr, Rev. R. Ferguson and Mr Le Bailley (secretary to the Union). The Rev. R. Ferguson delivered an interesting address. Mr C. J. Parr was then asked to present the certificates to the representatives of the Sunday schools, and before doing so paid a high tribute to the value of the work accomplished. He eulogised tht seli : sacrifice of teachers in Sunday schools, and pointed out that as, for good or evil, the Bible was shut out of the State schools, a greater responsibility rested upon teachers in Sunday schools for the spiritual training of a child was of even more importance than the mental or physical. Mr Parr then presented the certificates, after which Mrs Parr 1 handed to each of the 86 prize winers I handsomely bound volumes, and the chairman presented framed certificates of honour to the Mount Eden Methodist, Tirau Presbyterian, and Mayfield Interdenominational Sunday Schools.
