The ladies of the Gem Reunion gave a plain and fancy dress ball In the Druids' Hall last Thursday evening. The building was tastefully decorated with flags and evergreens. The grand march was led by two little girls and two little boys, as sailor lads and their lassies. The leaders were Masters Bennett and McGregor and Misses McDonald and Bond; next came | Miss Bentley and Mr. McGregor as "Stars and Stripes" and "Union Jack," Miss B. McGregor and Mr. Bradshaw as "The St. Patrick's parish annual ball takes ■place at the Portman Booms, VictoriaStreet West, on Tuesday, October 26. Arrangements have been completed for a popular concert at popular prices, to be : given in the Choral Hall next Thursday I evening. The performers include the Lyric Quartet, Miss Lizzie Knight, Blanche I Garland, Messrs. O. B. Farrow, J- w. Ryan Asplnall, Van Heck, Poore. Montague, McElwain, and Fred, Blandford, humorist, a new arrival Irom London. VVAIKATU BOXING ASSOCIATION. The Waikato Boxing Association's Inaugural carnival takes place on Tuesday next at Hamilton. The principal Item on the programme is a 10-round professional contest between Gault and Harcomb, and as the pair are well matched, an interesting contest should result. The nominations for the various other competitions are large, and altogether a Successful carnival should result. HOWICK LITERARY SOCIETY. The Howicß Literary and Debating Socierv held Its final meeting of the session in the Oddfellows' Hall on Wednesday evening. Mr. H. P. Andrew presided. Songs were given by the Misses S. Thompson, Cooper, Brady and Worsley. Miss Brady played a pianoforte solo, while Mr. C. Edwards and Mr. Mills gave a number of recitations and songs. A balance of about £3 was voted to the Piano Commititee, to help liquidate the debt ou the pub[llc piano.
