The immediate cause or" the resignation of the Spanish Ministry was the accusation of the Minister for the Interior (Senor Juan de la Cierva) that the Opposition leaders, by leniency in 1906, had been responsible for the attempt on kine Alfonso's life. Senor Moret, who was Premier in 1906, in a brilliant reply on behalf of the Liberals, denying the accusations, forced Senor Maura to resign.
