POLICE COMMISSION.

» JU i - (Continued from page 5.) T. Wake, aa ex-member of the police force, and now a farmer at Hobsonville, urged that the district constable at Hobsonville should be promoted to the position of regular constable, since the work of the district justified it. He suggested that the system of emoluments should he done away with. The ppljce did all these things in police time. It often happened that the police did not have enough to keep them gqing. It was too monotonous for him, and so he got out of the service. The emoluments were altogether "too soft a thing," and he thought the money 60 spent should be paid into a kind of promotion fund, sp that merit might have its reward, and higher appointments might be more often made where they were deserved.
