PROPOSED CARNIVAL AT TE AROHA.
On Tuesday, 24th. inst., a largely attended meeting, convened by the-Mayor (Mr. R. L. Somers), -was held in the■Tβ Aroha Town Hall to consider a proposal to hold a week's carnival. In the iinavoidable absence of ■ the Mayor, the chair was taken }ty Mr. J. Rowe (Deputy Mayor), who spoke at some length on the advantages of holding a carnival. Other speakers followed, namely, Messrs. Burton , (Bowling Club), T. Mclndoe (farming interests), T. Donovan (band, etc.), Pilkington (fire brigade), Captain Tattersall (military affairs), Rev. Cleary (instrumental music, etc.), Rev. Blair (elocution). After some further discussion, it was decided that a committee be set up to Teport to a, future meeting as to support promised. . The following were elected a committee:—Messrs. P. Baine, W. Brodie, T. Donovan, P. Gilchrist, W. R. Johnson, H. Kerr, J. B. Johnson. R, G. Lewis, T. Mclndoe, J-. McSweeney, H. McGerr, Captain Pilkington, 0. F. Pilling, R. Parr, J. Rowe; T. J), Rice, R. -L.-Somers, Captain lattersall- F. "VV. Wild. .. . ' , A great deal of enthusiasm was evinced at the meeting, and it is a foregone conclusion that the quaint, picturesque, and flourishing town of Te Aroha will be graced by as successful a carnival as any hitherto held in the Dominion.
