LACROSSE.

The following is the personnel of the Wellington team which meets our representatives on Saturday next:—Moran, Penlington, Jantke, Murray, Horn, Buckley, Eankin, Robinson, Fama, Meyer, Montgomery, Hudson.

Seven of the above played against Auckland last year, of the others Meyer and Kobinson are spoken of as being brilliant exponents of the game. Peulington, Murray and Buckley are unknown to dip. but I should imagine they are top notchers, seeing that they have displaced good men. In attack, the side appears to be very formidable, and our defence men will have their work cut out to keep them in hand. The back division I am now well acquainted with, but it ie safe to assume they will give our attack a lively time. A member ot the Wellington selection committeee, who was in our city last week, gave out that the Auckland attack would be unable to pierce the brilliant Wellington defence. Mr. H. McDonald, of Wellington, will act as referee. Adverting to the Auckland twelve, it appears to mc that the selectors have chosen the best available team. The one thing likely to cripple the team will be the want of combination. Owing to the bad weather no play took place, and it is to be regretted that the team will take the field without having had a full practice together. The association made a big error in only allowing one Saturday for a trial match; and it will probably prove to be a costly mistake. We appear to have a very solid attacking team, but they will need a lot of support from their defenders. A great deal will depend upon the play of the guardians of the Auckland goal —let us hope they will cover themselves with glory. A practice game -will take place on the Domain Cricket Ground on Saturday afternoon next. The outcome of this match may be a challenge to play ttua representative te+us on ttoir return.
