(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) ; # ELECTJtOCUTED. DUNEDIN, Monday. A man named George Price, aged about 25, was killed this afternoon, near Wilkie's flour mill at Mosgiel. He was in the employ of the city corporation, and came in contact with a live electric wire. Price is supposed to have come from Tapanui. THE TUHARA WRECK. ' NAPIER, Monday. The steamer Tangaroa. returned this afternoon from the scene of the wreck of the auxiliary schooner Tuhara, at Mahia. A portion of the machinery was salved, and some of the spars and. rigging. A small portion of the cargo of coal and timber was also secured. The vessel is a complete 1 wreck. ACCIDENT ON THE MIMIRO. GISBORNE, this day. •While working on the Mimiro—one of the Tyser Company's mutton boats—in the bay last evening, a man named Bissett, of the engineering staff, feE into the hold, and fractured a leg and arm. . The inmates, numbering eleven, were all rescued; one of them, who was in bed, having to be dragged out by the girls in the house. Practically nothing was saved. The home, which consisted of thirteen rooriis, was insured for £200 in the Liverpool London and Globe, and furniture for £100 in the same office. Mrs. McKenna is a heavy loser. SOUTHERN COURTS* DUNEDIN, this day. ~ The Criminal Sessions opened this morning.. Judge Williamsj charging the Grand Jury, said the calendar was rather heavier than "usiial, there being no fewer -than thirteen persons charged, but most of the offences were of the ordinary type, requiring no observation on his part. Oscar Kosub, for housebreaking, after breaking out of sentenced to 12 months extra; James Reid, forgery at Oaiharu, 12 months. Alfred Charles Pratt and William Findlay pleaded oUilty to breaking into a store and stealing rabbitskins. Pratt was admitted to probation and Findlay was given another chance and fined £5. *' ~ AT THE ROOT OF SOCIETY. WELLINGTON, this' day. James Archer Crooks appeared befdre Mr Justice Cooper to-day for sentence for bigamy. It was stated that he had six children by his first wife and three by the sedond. When probation was suggested by prisoner's counsel, his j Honor said he could not for a moment ' entertain the idea that bigamy could be met by probation. Bigamy tvas a serious offence which struck at the root of society. His Honor made some scathing remarks on the facts disclosed by the evidence, and remanded prisoner i for further consideration.
