Rev. F. G. Evans, accompanied, by hia wife, left for New Plymouth yesterday by the Rotoiti. Sir Robert Stout, the Chief Justice, is very much better. He was able to get up for a few hours on Sunday. Mr. Frank Levy, representing Meynell and Gunn's Dramatic Company, is in Auckland. The company opens on March 15 in "A Miner's Trust." The Hon. James Carroll (Minister fos Native Affairs) is still in Auckland, being at the present time slightly ind_ipo&ed, owing to an attack .-of- influenza. X>r. J. H. H. Baillie, youngest, son of the Hon. Captain Baillie, M.L.C., died in London last week. Dr. Baillie waa thirty-two years of age. Mr. T. M. Wilford's illness has been exceedingly severe, but he has passed the critical point and is now on the road to recovery. Mr. Justice Edwards left "by the Mbkoial this afternoon for Gisborne, where • the Supreme Court sessions open on Thursday.-' Sir Joseph Ward left Wellington, for the South last night. He intends visiting Invercargill and the Bluff, returning at the end of the week. The Hon. George Fowlds (Minister for Education) was in attendance at tha Government Buildings to-day, and re« ceived a number of private callerThere were no public deputations.

Mr. T. E. Donne (General Manager of the Tourist Department), who has been confined to his room at the Gran— Hotel for some days, is to-day much better, and has been able to get about a little.

Mr. J. Dickson, inspector of excise for New South "Wales Governmont, ia at present in Auckland on a visit to his parents. He intends to remain in Auckland for about a month, and will <isit Rotorua with his father. Mr. Thomas W. Fisher (Under-Secre-tary for Native Affairs), -who has been staying at the Star Hotel, leaves by train this evening. He will break his journey at Te Kuiti to attend to native affairs, and also visit Kihikihi before, proceeding on to Wellington. The Hon. D. Buddo, Minister for Public Health, will probably leave Wellington at the end of the week for a trip to the North, nd will be away for six or seven days, ifi— intends to make an official visit to _ie Cambridge Sanatorium, and also to —ie tree-planting camp for convalescent oonsumptives at Karere. Mr. A. M. Myers, late mayor of Auckland, left last night for Sydney, where he will be joined by his -wife. From there they proceed to England, via Suez. Mr. and Mrs. Myers expect to he absent from New Zealand about twelve months. As the steamer left the wharf last night, the large crowd which had astiemhled gave three hearty cheers for Mr. Myers. The Hon. A. W. Hogg left Stratford this morning for Whangamomona and the district along the route of the Strat-ford-Ongarue railway, and will attend a banquet at Whangamomona to-night. The representatives of Stratford- and Whangamomona Counties and the Taranaki Land Board accompany the Minister. At a largely attended banquet. last evening, Mr. Walter Symes, ex-member for this district, was presented, with _ purse of sovereigns and a solid silver tea service (says a Stratford Press Association telegram). The Hon. A. -W. Hogg was present and apologies were received from the Premier, the Hons. R. McKenzie, T. MacKenzie, and Dr. Findlay. On Saturday evening Constable Driscoll, who has been promoted to the Port Albert district, was presented with a handsome travelling bag on the eve of his departure from Waihi, and Mrs.'Driscoll with a silver-mounted brush and;comb and ring holder. (says our Waihi correspondent). On behalf of the police of the Waihi sub-district, Sergt. McKinnon made the presentation, and eulogistic references were made by members. of the force present to their departing comrade. Mr. Wallnutt, J.P., on behalf of the local Justices of the Peace, also bid the constable farewell, and said that he had earned the respect of all sections of the community during the three years of his stay.
