After all mo temperance ticket has been nominated for Parnell, notwithstanding the fact that five residents had consented to stand in that interest. The j reason for this, we are informed, is that I the main duties of a committee in Parnell will be of a totally different character to the objects sought to be obtained by the temperance party, ana it is- felt I that under these circumstances to con- • test the seat would be merely a wasteful and expensive dispersal of energy, which can be much more profitably reserved ror a determined No-license campaign before next general election. Only five nominations having thus been received, Mr. H. B. Massey, returning officer, has declared Messrs. William Thomas, George William Basley, John Lumpkin, Archibald Clements, and William Galvin to be duly elected a committee for Parnell. Mr. Basley _ the only new member, the other four having sat on the former committee. There will be no contests (only the requisite number being nominated} for Taranki, Napier, Hawkes Bay, Egmont, Wanganui, Christchurch, Lyttelton, Riccarton and Avon. In thp Grey Lynn and Eden districts, in which No-license was carried, no committees will be elected. TAURANGA. Only the required number were nominated for the Tauranga Licensing Committee, and they were declared duly elected as follows:—John Candlish Allen, Charles Jordan, Robert King, G. Arnold Ward, Thos. Wells. MARSDEN. WHANGAREI, Monday. I The following nominations have been received for the forthcoming licensing election for Marsden:—Wm. Carter, J. H. Hawkes, A. J. McKay, David Todd, David Wright, F. J. Foote, Robt. Frodsham, Chas. Hawken, Norman McKenzie, T. P. Moody. The first five named represent the temperance ticket, and the others the "moderates." franklin! PUKEKOHE, Monday. The following nominations have been Toceived for the Franklin Licensing Committee:—James D. Chalmers, George P. Ewing, Donald McKinnon, William Claude Motion, John Schlaepfer, John Routly. waikato! HAMILTON, Monday. The nominations received for Waikato were:—Allen Bell, Cornelius Day, William Dey, George Edgecumbe, and J. A. Going, and they were declared elected. SOUTHERN ELECTIONS. . CHRISTCHURCH, this day. For the Christchurch Licensing Bench the only persons nominated were the i nominees of the No-license party, and, I as only the required number were nom--1 mated, there will be no election. For Avon, Riccarton, and Lyttelton there will be elections. ASHBURTON, this day. The following nominations have been received for the Licensing Committee for the Ashburton electorate, which is under No-license:—F. R. Flatman, T. E Upton, B. R. McDonald, F. R. Stubbs, and F. H. Choat. As there are only five nominations a poll is unnecessary. Although the electorate is under No-license, a committee is required to administer the Act until June _ 30, on account of sis licensed houses existing in the Geraldine portion of the electorate, which waa added to Ashburton by the Boundary Commissioners. DUNEDIN, Monday. Owing to reduction having been carried at the local option polls in Dunedin City, Dunedin South, and Port Chalmers, keen interest is likely to be taken in the Liceniing Committee elections next week. Foe Dunedin O—y tha retiring

committee (Messrs. Arlde, Braithwaite, Crust, Burnett, and Small) have been nominated, and also five candidates (Messrs. King, Calder; Wilkinson, Phillips, and Dr. De Lautour) oh behalf of the No-license party. In Dunedin South five candidates have been nominated by the No-license party, and also three independents. For Port Chalmers nine candidates have been nominated. In Taieri a compromise has been arrived at, and no election will be necessary. GISBORNE; this -day. There will be contests for the licensing election in the Bay of Plenty and Gisborne electorates. In Bay of Plenty eight nominations have been received. Lj Gisborne it had been decided in conference between the Liquor and No-license parties to avoid a contest with the object of saving the local bodies the expense of an election, and the Trades and Labour Council, which had intended nominating a candidate, fell in with this idea, but a few minutes before closing time five independents were nominated, making .eleven candidates now in the field. WELLINGTON, this day. A licensing election will be necessary in the Hutt district, but in Wellington City the No-license ticket has been declared elected '• in t the absence "of any other nominations. In Wellington Suburbs and Wellington South, both of which electorates have carried Nolicense, no nominations have been made for a committee.
