"A. motion "was also passed requesting the Victorian Conference to ate tie Rev./Chas. TregeaY (a noted evangelist)- to' be liberated this year for special work', in Wellington. . -What was galled a " Methodist, men's banquet" was- held- in tlie Town Hall in the ; evening. About 300 ■ men • were pr'es'&t; including. the whole, of ..the conference delegates - and about 120 representative laymen from . the * Wellington. Methodist" Churches. ..The..Rev. C- H. Garland, of -Nelson;-who presided, said that, such a'gathering was unique in the history of the Methodist Church of New Zealand; idea* of *" hiding'the banquet was conceived and wholly carried out, py a-Tiommi.ttee of young men whose aim had been tq..brin,g the delegates- together in a brotherly- fashion. Several addresses were delivered.
