TAUMARUNUI.

The public meeting at which the members of the- Town Council will tender their resignations in a body will be held in the Town Hall on Wednesday. It is to be regretted that so good a body of men as they have proved themselves should be compelled to resort. to such measures, owing to their repeated efforts and exertions to farther the interests of the district having met with reverses. Only during the last week there have been instances of the urgent need of some better jurisdiction over the street traffic. An instance of persons hawking frait in the street to the annoyance of the public was brought under the notice o£ the policeman, who stated he had no power to deal with the matter. It appears that an obsolete law, according to the Treaty of Waltatigl, has considerable to do with the detriment and prevention of this place beiug more prosperous. Probably the existence of such a township as this was not though of at the time the treaty was drafted. The whole township and surrounding' district are in sympathy with the members of the Council, and the result of their resigning will be watched with interest.
