A RICH STRIKE. (Received 9.40 a.m.) SYDNEY, this day. A party of prospectors near Hillend (Ballarat) struck a rich patch of gold, and took out £1000 worth in four hours! N.S.W.'S PROSPERITY. (Received 9.40 a.m.) SYDNEY, this day. The revenue of New South Wales for the past eight months shows an increase of half-a-million compared with the same period in the previous year. Victorian revenue decreased by £273.000, and Westralia decreased by £145,000 in the same period. AN IMPROPER LABEE. SYDNEY, February 28.. The New Zealand Government Agency is investigating several cases where goods alleged to be of New Zealand origin are offered for sale. In one instance New Zealand flannel goods were displayed, which turned out not to be flannel at all, but mere shoddy. SMALLPOX ON A STEAMER. PERTH, February 28. The steamer Redbridge, from Calcutta, has been quarantined at Bunbury. Captain Smith has succumbed to smallpox, and some of the members of the crew are suffering from the disease. A BIG SCORE. SYDNEY, February 28. Bardsley, a member of the Australian eleven, played an unfinished innings of 217 against North Sydney yesterday.
