RIOTING IN LISBON.

A REPUBLICAN REVEL. QUELLED BY THE MILITARY. (Received 8.10 a.m.) LISBON, February 28. A Republican carnival in Lisbon last night led to wild demonstrations against the monarchy, which resulted in rioting and disorder, as an outcome of which 200 arrests were made, while many were wounded. The masqueraders gave a mockery of last year's tragedy, when King Oarlos and his eldest son were killed. These and their assassins were impersonated, and the obsequies were simulated by means of coffins containing skeletons. Blasphemous songs were meanwhile sung by the revellers. The police interfered, and were stoned by those taking part in the demonstration, while the mob joined forces with them, and showers of stones and other missiles were hurled at the police. Eventually the military were called out, and the disturbance was quelled, but not until a great number of the rioters had been wounded.
