THE GENERAL ELECTION.
FIXED FOR NOVEMBER 17. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Friday. The Government has decided that the general election shall be held on Tuesday, November 17. EXPLANATION BY A MINISTER. NOT EARLIER THAN USUAL. The Bon. George Fowlds was asked by a "Star" reporter this morning if ' there had been any special reason influencing the Government in fixing the election for what is generally thought to he an earlier date than usual. The Minister replied that the time fixed upon was not earlier than usual, as the House had risen earlier this session. It wan also advisable to have the election as soon as possible, owing to the second ballot bill having been passed, which rendered it necessary in .order not to run too close to the vacation.
