NATIVES ON THE WAR-PATH.

g__rma_. BorrnvE exbeditiox. News brought, to . ydney by the mail steamer Manila from the Caroline Group shows that the native rising at Pon_pe has not yet been suppressed. Some weeks ago, it will be remembered, reports were brought in that the natives were displaying hostilities. The white settlers were alarmed, and assistance was urgently asked for. The last mail steamer carried a despatch to Dr Hahl, the Governor of the Bismarck Archipelago, at Frederick Willi elm's Haven, and a punitive expedition was organised and despatched to the scene by the X_D.L. steamer Laangoog. The expedition consisted of 100 native police, in charge of Judge Full. Tihe result of the expe-dition was' apparently not satisfactory, for the Government yacht Seestern. w.th Dr Hahl, has since proceeded to the scene to punish the natives concerned.
