O'NEILL'S POINT WHARF.

Two letters came bef<rre the Harboui Board this afternoon with regard to proposed works at O'Neill's Point. One was from the Secretary to the Marine Department, notifying that the Governor had approved of the plans for the reclamations at O'Neill's Point. Mr H. GilfUlan, jun., secretary to the Takapuna Tram and Ferry Co., wrote drawing attention to two points not mentioned in the resolution re reclamation at O'Neill's Point. These were— (1) "As t 0 the use of the rails. Seeing tnat the cost or laying these down is to be borne entirely by the company, my board is of opinion that it would be only fair that the company should be granted the sole and exclusive use thereof; subject, of course, to the full rights of the public of access over the same. I would like to emphasise that it is only as regards the use o' the rails, that this grant is desired, and that this company does not wish in any way to impede traffic, but simply to have the right to prevent hand trolleys for goods or some similar occurrence obstructing the running of the cars. (2) Or to the length of time the right is to last. While this jonrpany is to pay £50 for 10 years to your Board, my directors consider that the term of right to use the reclamation should be the same as is created by the Order-in-Council and deed of delegation for the main tramway system. The reclamation is the final connecting link between the tramway and the wharf which you are about to erect, and *jjj hardly be used for any other purpose, so that it seems fair that for the payment of £500, which has already been mode and the further payment of £500 extending over ten years, this company should have the use of the reclamation so long as such is required by it. I need hardly point out that when the cars are running to Takapuna it will be a great convenience to the public that they can be taker right down to the wharf. My directors therefore trust that in all fairness, youi Board will sec its way to concur in th< •views now placed before it, and give instructions for such to be inefnded in the agreement which is being prepared."
