UP-TO-DATE WHARF APPLIANCES.
SOME BIG FIGURES. Some idea of the oo3t of an up-to-date equipment of the harbour may be gathered from the fact that at the meeting of the Harbour Board to-day, Messrs. McArfchur, of London, forwarded the list of tenders received for certain appliances recommended by the engineer, Mr Hamer, and for which tenders were invited.. For the 60-ton crane, tenders were sent in from 10 firms, and the prices ranged from £113,350 to £26,200. For the 80-ton crane the same firms tendered, and the prices ranged from £14,500 to £31,550. For .the bucket and suction dredges combined, the tenders ranged from £38,250 to £65,610, and for the bucket ladder dredge only, from £35,250 to £59.025. Five firms tendered. For. the electric capstan, the prices ranged for "A" from £ 107 to £ 282, and "B" from £'110 to £270. Thirty-six firms tendered.
