Four days after leaving Newcastle, the crew of the barquentine Helga had a desperate conflict with fire. About 10 o'clock smoke was seen issuing from the store room, and it was found that the place was in flames, cansed by an overturned lamp. After half an hour, daring which the crew battled with the fire, the flames were extinguished. A second fire broke out in the galley a few days later, owing to the funnel having carried away, hut it was of small dimensions, and was easily extinguished.
