THE POSITION OF TEACHERS.
• i MR. FOWLDS' EFFORTS. (By Telegraph.—Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. Referring to the Education A<_ Amendment Act in the course of an interview yesterday, the Prime Minister remarked that the altered status of our teachers effected by the Education Act amendment was a change appreciated by every right-thinking person. Salaries were prevented from going below what was a fair remuneration for services rendered, and as a measure of justice to the teaching community it must be commended. The improved position of the teachers' superannuation fund was also a matter for congratulation. His colleague, the Hon. George Fowlds, had given very great thought to these improvements, and he must be congratulated upon the bettered condition of this important State Department under his administration.'.'
