i A NATIVE SHOT SEAS. ADELAIDE, September 23. William "Wallace Winton, aged 16, living on his father's selection, 13 miles from Bedourie, in Queensland, near the South Australian border, has been arrested on a charge of having murdered Boko Jacky. Jacky, it appears, was guilty of disobedience, and Winton, senior, it is alleged administered a flogging. The native retaliated throwing a tomahawk at Winton, and then ran into the bush. Later he returned, and appeared friendly. Tlie son, however, was suspicious, and while his father was asleep he mounted guard, armed with a loaded rifle. About midnight, he says, he saw the native creeping up to the hut, and fired a shot, which took immediate effect. On the father running out, he found Jacky dead, with a large stone clasped in his right hand. The family then foolishly determined, it is asserted, to say nothing about the affair, and buried the body, but the tragedy came to the knowledge of the police, and with the aid of a tracker they discovered the corpse buried in Winton's goat yard. Once the arrest was made, the father and son made known all the facts.
