PROPOSED SLAUGHTERHOUSE AT ALBANY.
A TFrell-qttended meeting of ratepayers and residents of Albany was held in the schoolroom, Albany, on Monday night, September 28, to discuss the proposed erection of a slaughterhouse in the district. Strong exception was taken to the iite fixed upon by the owner, and most of the speakers emphatically declared that the presence of a slaughterhouse would be detrimental to the district. It was urged that with so much open country to choose from, the attempt to fix a site for so objectionable a trade in the vicinity of established residents was most unreasonable. The following resolution was carried nera. con., and a deputation was appointed to wait upon the Waitemata County Council to voice the claims of the residents: "That this meeting of ratepayers and residents of Albany protests against the site chosen for a slaughterhouse, which it considers detrimental to the best interests of the immediate district, and earnestly hopes that Mr. White will meet the reasonable request of his neighbours by fixing on a site much further removed from their dwellings and from the main road; and this meeting furthermore urges the Waitemata County Council to refuse a permit unless such request is acceded to."
