REPUBLICAN SINCERITY.
IN PROSECUTING TRUSTS. POT AND KETTLE. NEW YORK, September 29. President Roosevelt has replied to Mr. W. J. Bryan's hint t'lat the Republicans Obtained £50,000 from E. H. Harriman, the railway king, on the eve of last Presidential election, and that J. Rockefeller, Andrew Carnegie, J. Pierpont Morgan. Chas. M. Schwab and other magnates contributed to the Republican fund for the election of Mr. Hughes as Governor of New York. In his reply, President Roosevelt upholds the sincerity of the Administration's prosecution of the trusts. Referring to campaign funds, the President declares that when the trust contributions were given it was with no implied promise of immunity, adding: "They are not so bad as the silver mine millionaires' large individual contributions in support of Mr. Bryan's first two campaigns, for the specific reason that free silver, as advocated by him, would enhance the value of their properties."
