RIVAL SULTANS.

MULAI HAFID DEFEATED. MOROCCO, August 17. Mulai Hafid's forces have been badly defeated near Marrakesh, 300 being killed and 500 wounded. This is the first serious check experienced by Mulai Ha.fid, the Sultan's eldest brother, for some time, his previous marches being a series of conquests over the various illscricts travelled through. He captured, without fighting, Fee, Alcazar, Rabat, Nequinez, and many other towns, his progress being extraordinary. Not so very long before bis agitation was considered to have practically died out for want of supporters and funds. The coast towns stood out against him through fear of foreign intervention, and rallying on these. Abdul Aziz has apparentiy reorganised his forces, whole battalions of which had deserted to Hafid.
