BRIBED BY THE GRATTERS. TO KIIL CHIEF 'WITNESS. (Received 5.40 a.m.) SAN FRANCISCO, July 16. Claudians, a Greek, has confessed that he was promised f 1000 to dynamite the house of James L. G-allagher, the principal witness in the "graft" charges aginst Mayor Schmitz, Abe Ruef, his chief hanehman. and 'he members of the Board of Supervisors, who accepted large bribes from saloons, railway companies, and illicit traders. Claudians admits that he dynamited and partly destroyed Gallagher's resi- ] dence, and snys that the fine remains unpaid. He asserts that his brother has been offered a similar reward to attempt Gallagher's life. j James L. Gallagher, chairman of the Board of (Supervisors, was the intermediary" between Schmitz, Ruef and the givers of bribes fof concessions. Without his evidence a conviction would be utterly impossible, and in May an attempt was made to kill him by dynamiting his house, which was wrecked, while both Gallagher and his wife were slightly Injured.
