AN AWFUL MISTAKE.
CHILDREN BDKNED TO DEATH. DURING LIFE-SAVING EXHIBITION. (Received 8.20 a.m.) LONDON, July 14. While a party of seamen belonging to the.warships Hermes and Durban were giving a display of life-saving apparatus, three children, placed on top of temporary buildings to show the facilities for life-saving, were burned to death. Tliis shocking fatality was due to the premature ignition of the building through one of the sailors mistaking a signal. The spectators thought that the children were dummies, and did not realise the awful horror of the situation till too late.
