AN APPOINTMENT FORE. SHADOWED. (Received 11.5 a.m.) MELBOURNE, this day. Lord Northcote, the retiring GovernorGeneral, was entertained s.t a farewell dinner by the citizens last night. The acting-Lord Mayor, who presided, said that it was likely that within a i brief time Lord Northcote would be ap- ! pointed High Commissioner for Australia iin London. Lord Northcote, in replying to the toast, received a tremendous ovation.
