A PENSION FRAUD.
(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) " INVERCARGLLL, this day. A man, 75 years of age, charged with having obtained an old age pension by false pretences, having a sum of £347 in the bank, pleaded guilty. The Magistrate said an Old Age Pensioner could not be fined under the Act, and, as accused was over 65 years of age, he could not be imprisoned. It was a mean, dirty offence, and he would have imprisoned accused for six months if he could. The man had come before him, and had stated again and again that he never had a banking account. Accused was admitted- to probation for six, months, and ordered to pay costs— £3 16/.
