The announcement by advertisement that the Kauri Freeholds Gold Estates Company ha 9 ceased operations in New Zealand, brings to memory the fact that during the big English boom, this company took up 36,000 acres on the Hauraki Peninsula, and spent large sums of money in development work, and the erection of a crushing plant. The battery was long since sold to another company, and a week or two ago the fact was announced that the land had been purchased by a gentleman for a sheep run.
