THE AWAKENING EAST.
AUSTRALIA'S DANGER. HER MANHOOD TO THE TEST. LONDON, June 26. The Anglo-Sason Club last night entertained Mr. J. H. Carruthers (ex-Premier of New Sonth Wales) and the Hon. J. M. Davies (Attomev-General of Victoria). Mr. Carruthers, in the course of a speech, said Australia was destined to become a great nation. He referred to the neighbouring nations emerging from their long slumber, and remarked that perhaps Australia would have to pay the penalty for mistakes made in the past. Personally, he added, he did not think it would be a bad day for Australia, when her manhood was put to the test.
