Mr. Deakin states" that the decision "of the High Court was not expected and some otheT means must be found giving effect to the new protection. Sir Wm. Lyne, Federal Treasurer, says that it may be desirable to amend the constitution. If necessary, arrangements ■will be made for taking a referendum. Ministers will confer on the situation during the coming ■week. The secretary of the Federal Labour party declares that the party will insist on an amendment to the constitution.
