ENGLISH FOOTBALL.
I (To the Editor.) 1 Sir, —The letter appearing in this even- \ ing"s issue signed "Northern Union," f is, to use a very mild term, amusing. ; Your correspondent is either ignorant or does not read the papers. He states . that the Northern Rugby teams are the i strongest in England, and further states that at least a dozen teams could bo picked from above equal to the best ' this Dominion could produce. How i dees "Northern Union" account for an - admittedly second-rate team like the | profession;..! All Blacks winning two out : of three test matches recently played i against the Northern Union teams? - Now, I have no hesitation in saying ; that a first-class club fifteen, such as • Ponsonby, could defeat the professional All Black team just returned. Now, this being the ease, what possible chance could :- representative Northern Union team have against the present representative New Zealand team? I venture to say that they would be beaten twice as badly as the British team now touring the Dominion—l am, etc., COLONIAL. 17th June, 190 S.
