GOLF.

'Ylest, Saturdays saw the semi-finals of the ■- prizes ' comjileted ii botfi senior and junior-- diyisione.".;-It was: a beautiful day -with a good etrorig breeze •blowing, and'great interest -was taken;'in the results. , Dargaville continued i» Bhow 'good form, and beat Colbeck fairly comfortably by 3 to 2. Dargaville took the lead from the Qommerieeihent of the game, and playing consistently was able to stall oil the challenge thrown out by his"opponent in the concluding stages of the match. llcCormick and P., Upton had a very level and interesting match up to. the 12th hole, but after that Upton's game fell away, and McCormiek, playing steadily, won by the same margin as in the previous match, viz., 3, .to 2. In the junior division Ruddock had a somewhat easy victory over Ferguson, who -was not playing up to form, but the match between S. Upton andßall was the best and most exciting match of the day, ending in a victory, for Upton by the narrow margin of 1 up: The finals between MeCormick and Dargaville in the seniorjand Ruddock and S. Upton in the junior division will be played off next Saturday. There was a big entry for the Grimshaw memorial competition which was also played for last Saturday under Bogey rules. The winner turned' up in W. Mclntosh, who is quite a new. "member of the Club, with a score of. 1 down to the Colonel. The winner had a handicap of a stroke, a hole which helped him somewhat in his contest with his deadly enemy. The next best scores were 3 down returned! by Bloomfield (JX.R.), Colbeck and Dudley. Considering the day, the veterans were very "poor, and the Colonel is to be congratulated on being the only player to go home with a clean sheet. -. On Saturday next the Auckland Golf Club is sending a team up to Hamiltoni I and it is to be hoped that any players that can get away will notify the secretary without any delay, as a lot of arrangements have to be made beforehand; Hamilton is reported to be fairly strong ! this year; but as the match is understood Ito be more of a holiday excursion than a trial of strength, men with big handicapa need not be bashful. I am glad to see that our N.Z. champion, Arthur Duncan, has gone over to ! Australia this year for the Australasian championship meeting. If in form he Is sure ,to give the championship a very close call, and I expect to see him win. If he happens to meet Scott in the nmu, it will indeed be a battle of giants, and worth going a long way to see.
