THE AUSTRALIAN GAME.

I The A and B match on Saturday ibrought out some very fine individual j play on the part of about half-a-dozen I players. The fixture was a great success, and a good crowd of spectators were present. - The game was the fastest seen here for ' some time, amd Mr. Rhoden (the umpire) • was set a pretty severe j task, .which, he f accomplished in a very creditable manT ner. On Saturday next a representative \ match will be played at "Victoria Park between Auckland and Waihi, and at. ; Monday evening's meeting of the League 3 the following arrangements for the fixj ture were made: Field umpire, Mr. Rho- \ den; goal umpire (Auckland), Mr. Kingsj bury; .boundary umpires, Messrs. Mc--3 Kay and Lewis; colours, Auckland, black i and white; Waihi, maroon. The match will commence at 2.45 sharp. The selection committee has picked the following players to represent Auckland: George, Monteith, Lording, Mar- % - shall, Fletcher, Lawson, Welch, Frith, Tongue, Bettis, P. Cairns, S. Wain, Brown, Brecse, Wilson, D. Smith, Gicnister, Davis; emergencies, Hoffmann, Abfal ter, C. Cairns, Cole. The five selectors of the Auckland " TJeague will be - present at the match, I which will be the last opportunity they will have of seeing the local players in action prior to the final selection of tlie New Zealand representative team, which 1 leaves for Sydney on August 3 next. s After the match the selection comrait- * tee appoint one of their number to proceed to Wellington and witness a match 3 on July 4 between Canterbury and Wel- * lington. Mr. D. Callman, the manager of the' r team, is making all necessary arramgeJ ments for the tour. The debentures are . being freely taken up, and during the week cheques were received from Dr. I Tracy K. Inglis £20, Mr. Arthur M. l Myers £10, and Mr. D. Norden £10. Makplll gave every satisfaction with the whistle, 0 and the spectators were treated to as Rood c an exhibition of Rugby as has ever been j seen on the Waluku ground. In the junior grade, Otaua had rather the best of the play, but seemed unable 1 to score, while Central got a try soon after . the start of the match, thus winning by 3 to nil.
