CHURCHILL'S ESCAPE.
HIS PAROLE UNBROKEN. ' c C (Received 8.50 a.m.) LONDON, June 23. The "Manchester Courier" has apoloIgised to Mr. Winston Churchill for the libel published during tbe election campaign, to the effect that Churchill, when a prisoner of war, had escaped from c Pretoria by breaking hi» parole. An interesting commentary on the libel j by the Manchester " Courier " is provided jby an interview with Mr. Winston ! Churchill, written by Bram Stoker, and ! published in Fngland on 15th January last. At the head of this interview was the fac-simile cf the proclamation issued by the Boers, offering a reward .of £25 for the arrest of Mr. Winston Churchill. The prc-.laination runs thus:—" Twentyfive pounds sterling REWARD is offered' by the sub-commission ofthe Fifth Division on behalf of the sepcial constable of the said sub-commission or anyone who brings the escaped prisoner of war, CHURCHILL, living or dead, to this office.—For j the sub-commission of the Fifth Division. LODK DE HAAS, Secretary." This paper was sent through the Transvaal in December, 1599, directly Mr. Churchill's escape from the prison at the Model School at Pretoria was discovered. :
