A party of negroes at Hemphill shot two white men. H , They were pursued, and six were capI tured by a sheriff's posse, by whom they -were lodged in gaol. J Subsequently a crowd of whites broke into the gaol and, taking the negroes .out J-u ° ■*' han & ed on one tree, ■while the sixth, ia endeavourin"- to escape, was shot. . Afterwards three, more negroes who if were supposed to be implicated were ehot.
